Biography:

"Not all who wander are lost," so the saying goes. I have hiked Guatemalan volcanoes, have woken up to the eerie roar of howler monkeys in Belize, have been haunted by death camp crematoriums in Poland, and have seen cheesy African pop videos on bumpy bus rides in Kenya. I even once got addicted to baklava in Istanbul. As a Bay Area-based freelance writer, I focus on issues of sustainability, social justice, and travel. In addition to writing for Oakland Local, I write for Matador Travel, Green Options Network, and Ethical Traveler. My most recent piece appears in Terrain Magazine: Northern California's Environmental Magazine. If you are so inclined, you can visit my blogs at Travelin' Bones and Rumi and the Cholo and follow me on Twitter.

Que tal? Among other things, I want to write Trazzler Trips on the following areas that I have a passion for and experience with: 1)Greater Bay Area: Love the culture, nature, food, the art, the music & festival experiences! (including Oakland and Berkeley) 2)Mexico (most areas, including Mexico City, Chiapas, Michoacan, Jalisco) 3)All of Central America, but particularly Guatemala, Costa Rica, Belize 4)Northern India, Thailand, Turkey, & Kenya (not just safaris, but also the Nairobi and beaches).

Topically, I have obsessions with festivals & live music, behind the scenes factories and farms (e.g., tequila distillery, vineyards, or coffee plantations), budget and sustainable travel, voluntourism, river-rafting, scuba diving, eco-lodges, green hotels, volcanoes, backpacking/hiking/biking, architectural ruins, museums, bed-n-breakfasts, local community events, restaurants (especially veggie-friendly), street food, street art & murals, and waterfalls.
