Soaking Up the View From Your Yurt in Big Sur, California

Genghis Khan never had views like this. Situated in southern Big Sur, up on a lone ridge, TreeBones Resort offers a panoramic vista of Big Sur’s famed halcyon waters, with a little touch of the steppe—each of the 14 dwellings at Tree Bones is a Mongolian yurt. For those not up on their Central Asian architecture, a yurt is a cylindrical hut used by Mongols as both living and sleeping quarters. But don’t worry, there’s no quiz—just quiet evenings stargazing through the window at the top of your dwelling. And come morning, don’t forget to gobble up the complimentary apple-cinnamon waffles available in the common area. They’re so yummy even Genghis would crack a smile.
