#18865 Kidding Around With New York's Toy Collection

If you want to understand a city, see how its children play. That’s the idea behind the Toy Collection at the Museum of the City of New York, boasting 10,000 toys and games from all periods in the city’s four-century history. Some pieces were meant just for show—like the Stettmeier Dollhouse, a hobbyist’s wonder from the 1920s, sporting original artwork by Marcel Duchamp and other modern artists—but you’ll also see toy trains, sock monkeys, skee-balls, tops, go-carts, teddy bears, Madame Alexander dolls, and other toys which lots of little New York hands once clutched. Ask your grandfather to explain how the skate keys worked.
