#4377 Limbering Up With Lady Isabella in Laxey, Isle of Man
Although the Isle of Man is best known as a haven for petrol heads (due to the annual Isle of Man TT and Manx Grand Prix motorcycle races) and tax evaders (little or no tax), this ancient Viking isle has much more to offer. Increase your heart rate by hiking to the top of 2036-feet-high Mount Snaefell (or take the electric Snaefell Mountain Railway). Back down in the valley and ready for more exercise, you can ascend Lady Isabella. She's the world's largest industrial water wheel, built to pump water from the nearby mines. Aside from the obvious aerobic benefit of the climb, on top you're also rewarded with a fine view of the quaint cottages that once housed miners' families, the pretty village of Laxey, and miles and miles of green hills.
