Shivering at a Magnificent Snow Festival in Hokkaido, Japan
Trek to the northernmost island of Hokkaido in chilly February (along with two million other visitors) to witness a winter wonderland. Stroll down snowy streets lit by ice lanterns. Pose in front of three-story-tall hand-carved snow sculptures of Narnia, the pyramids of Egypt, and Japanese castles. Fly around a track in an innertube pulled by a four-wheeler. Build a snowman to join the ranks of hundreds of snowy creatures in a field outside Sapporo. It's not a festival without the food, so make sure to sample Sapporo Ramen, fresh crab, and the lavender-flavored sweets for which Hokkaido is known.
