Free-Falling out of a Plane at 13,000 Feet in Deland, Florida
Strapped to an ultra-experienced Skydive Deland instructor, you waddle to the edge of the plane's open door, 13,000 feet above Florida's Atlantic Coast. As bitter cold wind whips the hair around your face, you're thinking, "What in the world have I signed up for?!" Over the roaring propellers, you hear your tandem instructor count down, "3...2....1." And you leap. Cheeks flapping, ears ringing, eyes stinging, you try in vain to smile for the free-falling videographer; meanwhile, all you really want to know is how much longer you need to endure the pain. Blissfully, after about 60 seconds (feels like 60 minutes), your instructor opens your shared chute. A quick jerk, and you're gently floating to the ground. The ride ends too soon.
