#14179 Admiring Botero’s Curvaceous Sculptures in Medellín, Colombia
Voluptuous women with exaggeratedly sized shapely hips, thunderous thighs, and buxom behinds dot the sidewalks of Colombia. You can behold these marvelous marble statues (and accompanying oil paintings) throughout Colombia’s major cities. The human and animal forms by Colombian artist, Francisco Botero, are in dreamlike proportions—a well-figured, reclining nude woman lays amidst Cartagena’s Santo Domingo plaza; a 7-foot tall giant hand guards the entrance of Bogotá’s Museo Botero (serving as an unexpected recliner); Medellín’s Plaza Botero is filled with a mammoth head-high face, a horse with gargantuan hooves, and one very stout dog sticking his miniature tongue out. Once you’ve seen one, you’ll easily be able to point out his other sculptures dotted around the globe including Hawaii and Israel, proclaiming, “Now, THAT is a Botero!”
