Flight-Seeing Around the Alaska Range in Talkeetna, Alaska
Flight-seeing with a bush pilot around the Alaska Range is an adventure way beyond “ooh” and “ah.” It’s magical, spiritual, breathtaking—and the superlatives don’t end there. Climb into the tiny contours of a Cessna 185, flown by Doug Geeting Aviation, and in no time, you’re soaring around, over, and in-between monoliths of ice, snow, and rock— 14,573 foot Mt. Hunter, 17,400 foot Mt. Foraker, and the towering great one—Mt. McKinley (a.k.a. Denali)—at 20,320 feet. I swear the Cessna’s wingtips barely missed the walls of the hulking Moose’s Tooth! After a smooth glacier landing, we sank to our knees in fresh snow. The air was take-your-breath-away cold, and an endless blanket of frozen white sparkled like crystal in the sunshine. What a place to feel insignificant, yet on top of the world, all in the same moment.
