Floating Down the Neva River in St. Petersburg, Russia
What better way to explore the "Venice of the North" than by boat? In summer, take advantage of Russia's white nights on a midnight canal tour. The Winter Palace and Hermitage, the Peter and Paul fortress, and the Summer Gardens are all visible from the banks of the Neva, and your boat guide will fill you in on all their historical and architectural details. You'll also get to see many of the city's magnificent bridges open at night to allow boats through. Just don't fall in—the Neva's icy waters once took the life of the supposedly invincible Grigori Rasputin.
