Climbing to the Top of Mt. St. Helena in Calistoga, California
Take in top-of-the-world vistas from atop 4340-foot-high Mt. St. Helena. The 5-mile hike to the top is a bitch, but on a clear day you’ll be rewarded a knock-your-socks-off 200-mile view of wine country and beyond. No kidding. Start at Robert Louis Stevenson State Park, eight miles north of town. On a hot day, take a dip afterwards at the pool at Bothe-Napa State Park, where you can also hike through oak woodlands and redwood forests. Bring a picnic.
