#13242 Flinging Dead Fish into Lake Baringo in Kenya

OK, so it’s not exactly one of those genuinely transcendent wildlife experiences, but it sure does get the heart pumping. You hire a local boatman and cruise along the shore of the blue-brown lake until you spot one of the signature sights of the region, an African fish eagle perched high atop a fever tree. Your guide tells you to get your camera ready and then sends a dried tilapia skimming across the surface of the lake. The eagle pauses, and you begin to wonder if it will really be interested in this meager offering. But then it drops suddenly and glides out across the lake, mere inches above the water, making minute course adjustments with its tail. At the final moment, its legs swing forward and it snatches the fish from the surface with prodigious talons. The wings beat for the first time, flogging the air, and the great bird swerves away to regain its lofty perch.
