Hopping Aboard a Water Taxi on the Canals Around Bangkok, Thailand
To get around Bangkok, you can take the Sky Train or the subway, if they happen to provide access to your destination. You can grab a taxi and fight the horrible traffic for hours. If you need to move a bit faster, there are always the Tuk Tuks; because of their small size they easily dart in and out of traffic, but riding on one of these three-wheeled vehicles means breathing diesel fumes during the entire ride. What's the alternative? Make your way to the nearest Khlong (canal) and grab a water taxi. A two-hour trip by road requires a mere 25 minutes by canal. But be forewarned: if you sit in the rear it is your responsibility to pull up the plastic water shield.
