Floating on Nouvel's Gravity-Defying Protuberance in Minneapolis
You don’t need to be an architect to appreciate the modern marvel of Jean Nouvel's Endless Bridge. No other place in the city (or any city, really) approaches the attention-grabbing proportions of this sleek blue building's famous phallic architectural appendage. The shiny metal "bridge" protrudes 178 feet off the front of the Guthrie Theater, cantilevering into an immense sky. The observation area at the end is a sanctuary of serenity where people gather to eat, drink, ruminate, and take surreal photographs of the world outside reflecting on the glassy angled surfaces. The outdoor deck overlooks the West River Parkway Mill Ruins Park with head-spinning 180-degree views of the Mississippi River landscape.
Architect: Jean Nouvel; Completed: 2006
