Beachcombing for Ghosts in the City of Dreams, Washington
In 2002, the horror film, The Ring was filmed here. However that’s not the reason you should visit the historic shores of Port Townsend. In the early 1800s, Port Townsend had been dubbed the “City of Dreams” because of speculation that this would be the largest harbor on the west coast—that clearly didn't come to pass. Strategically located on the northeastern tip of the Olympic Peninsula, Fort Worden State Park is home to haunting, poetry, and agate-hunting beachcombers. The tiny Independent book publisher, Copper Canyon Press has been permanently settled on this base and the tallest beacon in the Puget Sound, Point Wilson Lighthouse, is anchored here. Bring your pencils and paints, and you could spend the weekend ruminating here. And before you leave, don’t forget to enjoy the local IPA at Sirens on Water Street.
