Visiting the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco
Reopened to much fanfare in 2005, the extensively renovated de Young Museum in San Francisco's verdant Golden Gate Park is an architecturally compelling, state-of-the-art facility. With impressive collections of art from the Native Americas, Africa, and the Pacific, as well as 17th to 20th century American art, the Museum shows rotating exhibitions from Turkmen weavings to glass works by Dale Chihuly to avant-pop artists in residence like Tucker Nichols. Site-specific installations include a James Turrell, an Andy Goldsworthy, and an Ed Ruscha, and the sky-high tower room affords dramatic views of the city.
