Waltzing Between Barrels of Grappa in Asti, Italy
The Berta family has been turning grape skins into grappa for generations, and the stuff that comes out of their cellars is powerful enough to make your espresso seriously "coretto." Make your way through the distillery, full of twisting copper tubes right out of Willy Wonka’s factory, and descend into the cool, damp cantina, where violet lights arch across the vaulted ceiling and a Vivaldi waltz echoes off the barrels of booze. The air is thick with oak and alcohol, and the whole thing is deliciously schmaltzy. Once you’ve danced down the aisles, head back upstairs to sample the fiery stuff.
