#4740 Living Large at a Tropical Compound in Punta Burros, Mexico

Less than an hour north of touristy Puerto Vallarta is a series of quiet, upscale neighborhoods with fully staffed beachfront vacation rentals. The coast here doesn't disappoint: The water temperature is warm year-round, and easy, surfable beach breaks are plentiful. Many of the houses come with kayaks and surfboards, but don't fret if yours doesn't — for a small fee the staff will be able to find anything that you need. The tiny town of Punta del Burro has a strip of outrageous private vacation rentals, as does nearby Punta Mita. Be warned that the real estate here is California-Mexico hybrid, so don't expect a bargain.
