The O.C. might be best known for bling and Botox, but at Bolsa Chica State Beach in Huntington Beach, you couldn't be farther from the world of socialites, sugar daddies and McMansions. Pipeline it’s not, but surfing Bolsa is about so much more than the waves. Just a few miles north from the gridlocked waters around Huntington Beach Pier, here it’s about being stoked to be in the ocean, whether you’ve got the skills of Kelly Slater or you’re just starting out. Grab a board, paddle out, and join the “Dawn Patrol” for what can only be described as the best wake-up call ever invented. Catch a wave and ride towards shore as the sun rises lazily over the horizon. Keep an eye out for the dolphins—if you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of one gliding beneath your board.
