How Trazzler Arrived

Trazzler recommends trips — original, hand-picked, concise travel experiences — customized for your location and travel personality. [NEW INFO HERE] We got started in 2007 when Adam Rugel, a veteran of the online travel industry from back in the glory days of AOL, and Biz Stone, a social media entrepreneur who likes to think creatively, had a chat over pistachio nuts in the original Twitter kitchen. Biz suggested a crazy idea involving "virtual teleportation." The first version of Trazzler was born as a Facebook application whipped up by Adam, Biz, and Dave Du Verle. Based in part on the app, but also on our plans for a website, we received a fbFund Grant in the summer of 2008. With funding, we were able to bring on a developer, Adam Weller (Adam Rugel's friend from kindergarten), who built www.trazzler.com as a one-man-band until his friend Ryan Eschinger started helping in the summer of '09. Back to the hand-picked content... Megan Cytron (Adam Rugel's friend from AOL) started with Trazzler as a freelance writer, then quickly took on the role of establishing Trazzler's unique editorial philosophy, hiring and managing our freelance writers, and running our contests.

Friends and family investors include Evan Williams, Robert Rugel, Adam Rugel, Jack Dorsey, and Abdur Chowdhury. We recently closed a seed round of funding that will be announced here in the coming weeks.
